Cowboy Superstitions

Cowboy superstitions are prevalent with wide ranging extremes. Some of the more perplexing cowboy superstitions seem to centre around rodeos; these include: A saddle bronco rider always puts the right foot in the stirrup first! Never kick a paper cup thrown down at a rodeo - not sure who thought of that one! Another of the cowboy superstitions is don't compete with change in your pocket because that's all you might win! Eating a hotdog before the competition, on the other hand does brings good luck, but you shouldn‘t eat peanuts or popcorn in the arena! According to cowboy superstitions, you should never read your horoscope on a rodeos competition day! and never wear yellow in the arena - it will definitely bring bad luck!

One of the more famous cowboy superstitions often seen in movies is Never put your hat on a bed - that will bring bad luck. More widespread cowboy superstitions however, seem to focus on the boots! Such as: if you set your boots on a table, you will quarrel with someone soon. It's bad luck to step into your left boot first and tripping over a boot is thought to be a bad omen. Another cowboy superstition suggests that to walk along wearing only one boot will bring you as many bad days as steps taken! New boots that have never been worn should be put high above the floor for luck. If you give a pair of boots to a friend, he will walk away from you - some friend! Old boots should be worn on Friday the 13th for good luck! One of the most popular cowboy superstitions is if a father wears his boots while his baby is born, it will be a boy - not quite sure about that one! One should never accept a gift of old boots, or you will walk in the former owner's troubles - although that could be said of any shoe type!
